🌱Beaverton's Oscar Winner + Severe Backups From Hwy 26 Serious Crash

Get on up, Beaverton! Let's get this Friday started off right. These are the most important things going on in town today.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Check out all the fun and interesting things to do in the area in April at an article from Mark Miller of Pamplin Media Group (click here for free access using your library card; click here if you read via a paid subscription). Highlights include a performance by the Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra on April 8 and The Decemberists' frontman and songwriter, Colin Meloy, performing at the Reser on April 16.   2. Among the Oscar winners last Sunday was Beaverton's own sound mixer, Ron Bartlett. Honored this year for his work on "Dune," Bartlett graduated from Sunset High School in 1981. He has had a pretty illustrious Hollywood career since then, with a portfolio featuring pics such as "Life of Pi," "Us" and "Bladerunner 2049." (Deadline.com)
  3. Get a preview of Metro League softball from OregonLive. It's anyone's game when it comes to the championship at this point, but Nik Streng reports that Westview and Jesuit are looking strong.
  4. A major accident blocked traffic on Highway 26 near Cornelius on Thursday, with emergency crews responding around 6 a.m. Drivers faced backups as far as Bethany and 185th. Responders had the accident cleared by around 7:30 a.m. No additional info about the crash is forthcoming. (KOIN.com)
  5. A Beaverton middle school event aims to get more girls interested in STEM careers. Valley Catholic Middle School says just 10% of female students say they're interested in these sorts of careers. A total of 32 professional women visited the school to share advice and opportunities with the students of the school, both male and female. (KGW.com)
