Just this past week, the committee once again came up with a new proposal, one that had several changes over the one it had presented a month earlier.

The new proposal would move:

  • Sexton Mountain Elementary into the area covered by the new high school;
  • Montclair Elementary into the area of Southridge High School;
  • Oak Hills Elementary students would go to Sunset High School; and
  • Beaverton High School would get kids from Raleigh Hills.

The changes are necessary because the population of Beaverton has been growing faster than expected. Two of the high schools are expected to be near 100 percent capacity in the next few years.

As a result, the district is building a new high school south of Cooper Mountain.

The committee has discovered that making one community happy often results in another community being upset.

So, with about two weeks to go before a recommendation to the superintendent is expected, much is still up in the air.
