Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- JSR, a Japan-based semiconductor materials company with operations out of Beaverton and Hillsboro, just expanded, purchasing a Corvallis tech company for $541 million. The larger company closed on Inpria on September 17. Inpria began as a branch of Oregon State University's Department of Chemistry in 2007. Inpria's 45 Corvallis employees are expected to remain at that location. (The Corvallis Advocate)
- Some residents find themselves frustrated with the lack of consistency in how Oregon school districts report data on COVID in schools. Both Beaverton and Hillsboro school districts rely solely on Oregon Health Authority data, which can lag days behind. BSD reports that it is now creating its own real-time dashboard, with plans to launch next week. Beaverton School District communications officer Shellie Bailey-Shah says the update is part of the district's effort "to be fully transparent about what COVID looks like in our schools right now."(KEZI TV)
- Just one week into the school year, BSD reports at least seven classes have been quarantined due to presumptive positive COVID-19 cases. District policy requires quarantine for those 6 feet from a COVID-19-positive person for longer than 15 minutes during lunch or recess, or less than 3 feet from someone who tests positive for longer than 15 minutes in a classroom setting. Kelcie Grega reports that the affected schools include Springville K-8, Montclair Elementary, Mountainside High School, Conestoga Middle School and Terra Linda Elementary School. - And more COVID news: Washington County isn't winding down vaccination efforts, despite boasting the highest vaccination rates in the state. Dillon Mullan reports that some communities are resisting vaccination because members don't trust the government. - Time to polish up those social skills (sorry, introverts!): In honor of National Preparedness Month, Washington County reminds us that one simple step is getting to know our neighbors. Possible benefits include the option to share supplies, split work that needs to be done and fight loneliness. Click over to get some ideas on how to initiate conversations and make the most of good relationships with those closest to you in the community. (Washington County)
