Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- There are lots of opportunities for employment these days, if the proliferation of hiring bonuses is any indication. Beaverton School District is among the latest to incentivize joining their team, Mia Villanueva reports. The open positions include 300 substitute teachers, and the state has dropped the requirement for a bachelor's degree. BSD is also seeking bus drivers, custodians, paraeducators, school office assistants, nutrition services and classified school support substitutes. (KPTV)
- A local business is expanding to Newburg. The Oregonian's Michael Alberty describes Syndicate Wine Bar's journey to create a new space to the southwest, which it will share with 48 North Pizzeria out of Portland. - Oregon businesses are feeling the pain of supply chain delays, including the Beaverton area's own Nike. Kate Davidson reports on the sportswear giant's decision to cut revenue forecasts due to COVID-related factory closures in Vietnam. - Open Air Beaverton began as a response to the pandemic, but it's looking like it's going to be a permanent part of the local landscape, according to an update from the City of Beaverton. The agency writes that a late summer survey showed that the program was well-received by the majority of respondents. The City Council voted on October 5 to extend the program through September 30, 2022.
- The Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking for help identifying two thieves who broke into a car outside a liquor store on Barnes Road on October 15. The men took off with property from the vehicle worth about $1,000. The WCSO asks anyone with info about the incident to call the Sheriff's Office at 503-629-0111 with reference to Case #50-21-15447.
