Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- Even in the best of situations, many children experience a summer "slide" — that is, a loss of achievement gains made during the school year. When most students in the area were forced to learn remotely, educators predicted a worse than usual slide. Learn how 1,921 BSD students were helped to beat the summer slide with the district's Camp Achieve in an article by Pamplin Media Group.
- A Washington County child predator sting resulted in three arrests. Lake Oswego police led the effort in which investigators posed online as young girls and boys. Officials identified those arrested as Robert Lee-Olsen, 38, of Beaverton; Andrew Arstill, 32, of Aloha; and Gregory Parker, 35, of Portland. (Beaverton Patch)
- In transportation news, Washington County offers an update on some of the latest road closures to help you stay frustration-free as you drive around town.
- 179th Avenue lane closures started September 27, between Farmington Road and Ivy Glenn Drive, through January 28, 2022; and
- Miller Hill Road closed starting September 27, between 7695 and 7825 SW Miller Hill Road, through October 29. (Washington County LUT)
- Reporter Bridget Chavez talked to the folks over at Beaverton Pharmacy regarding the accessibility of Pfizer booster shots for COVID-19. Pharmacist Wade Irby says they only received protocols late Saturday afternoon, but now boosters are available to eligible individuals. Eligibility factors include age (65 and up), being immunocompromised or a frontline worker or being at a higher risk due to a specific work environment. - Superintendent Don Grotting and the Beaverton School District announced Grotting's retirement on Tuesday morning. Grotting has been with the Beaverton community for five years. He states that he plans to serve out the remainder of the school year. (Beaverton School District)
