Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. It was a big 'oops' moment for one local driver Friday night. Beaverton police say an individual was driving on SW Scholls Ferry Road when they "took a wrong turn" and ended up in the pool area of an apartment complex, narrowly missing the water. Police are investigating the incident as a possible DUII. No injuries were reported. (KATU)
  2. BSD's Arts & Communication Magnet Academy (ACMA) received the WE Awards School of the Year award for its efforts to combine art with equity to create a meaningful learning experience for students. One student explains the project as an effort to shine a light on the lane for BIPOC artists who attend the school. Get an overview at Beaverton School District via YouTube.
  3. Hope you're not planning on taking a swim at THPRD's Conestoga pool anytime soon. Head over to Twitter to see the extent of the ongoing remodel of the facility. Future visitors can look forward to improved pool access with a new deck, handrails and ADA lifts, fresh paint, new ceiling lights and new underwater lights to brighten the experience.
  4. New York Times writer Sheryl Gay Stolberg offers an East Coaster's perspective on a favorite destination for Beaverton folks-- the Three Capes area near Tillamook. Oysters, the Octopus Tree and the Jacobsen Salt Company are all featured on the writer's itinerary. Read the article to get new eyes on some well-loved spots. (New York Times)
  5. A Beaverton resident wonders which Diet Coke container is better for the environment? Explore the possibilities over at Willamette Week. Spoiler alert: it's likely aluminum. Bonus trivia: Giving up one canned soda per day for a year will reduce your carbon footprint by the equivalent of a 75-mile road trip in an average car.
