Happy Tuesday, Beaverton! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

A bit of afternoon rain. High: 58 Low: 48.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Beaverton Academy of Science and Technology (formerly the School of Science & Technology) received accolades as one of the best high schools in Oregon. Other local schools with top rankings were the Caitlin Gabel School and Jesuit High School. The list was a collaboration between Stacker and Niche. (KTVZ)
  2. Shout-out to the Beaverton folks who supported a Portland tattoo shop after vandalism! When the East Side Tattoo on Southeast Foster Road was struck by vandalism for the third time this year, the owner said he felt 'mentally drained.' But Beaverton and Vancouver residents who became aware of the situation via social media rallied to help. Their efforts helped the shop owner raise $9,000 for repairs. (kuna noticias y kuna radio)
  3. An exec from Columbia Sportswear spoke up in favor of a permanent federal vaccine mandate last Tuesday at a House Education and Labor Committee hearing. Richelle Luther, senior vice president of the company, said such a mandate would bring efficiency to the market and keep employees from defecting to workplaces that don't require vaccines or testing. Columbia Sportswear is headquartered near Sunset High School. (Fortune)
  4. There's been a change of plans, folks! Beaverton School District just announced more days off the week of Thanksgiving. That means there will be no school for district students from Monday, November 22 through Friday, November 26.
  5. Centro Cultural, a Cornelius-based community organization, was founded nearly 50 years ago by migrant workers who decided to make the region their permanent home. Now, the organization is getting ready to celebrate its 'golden anniversary' in 2022. Learn about the event and the history of Latin Americans in Washington County over at Pamplin Media Group.
