🌱Chalk Festival Moves To Hillsboro + BSD Considers Mask Rules

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hey, people of Beaverton! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 57 Low: 32.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Tualatin Valley Creates' popular chalk art festival is heading out of Beaverton, at least for this year. La Strada dei Pastelli Art Festival will take place at the west end of downtown Hillsboro on July 16 and 17. (Pamplin Media Group)
  2. More Beaverton-area kids may be attending preschool in the near future. Advocates are pushing for universal preschool in Washington County, crafting a ballot measure to take the decision to the voters in November. The new provision would serve the approximately 15,000 WashCo residents between the ages of 3 and 4. (Pamplin Media Group: click here for free access via the library or click here if you have a paid subscription)
  3. Beaverton School District officials have yet to decide whether or not to make masking optional following the end of the governor's mandate. Hillsboro School District is facing the same dilemma. According to an HSD representative, teachers' unions will likely play a big role in the decision-making process. (WLOS)
  4. Looking for ways to make the most of the next couple rain-free days? Twelve Tualatin Valley wineries are offering special tastings, pairings and activities such as live music and bonfires all weekend long! Click over to KATU to find out more!
  5. Head over to the latest newsletter from City Hall for an update on all things civic that happened over the past week. Top note item: Beaverton celebrated 129 years on February 10! Other highlights include a change to the City Council session schedule, the Mayor's proclamation of February 2022 as Black History Month and a resolution denouncing antisemitism. Look forward to an open house event relating to The Loop and view a presentation about the proposed SW Millikan Way Extension Project. (Your Beaverton)
