City Council Supports Muslim Community

Beaverton's City Council unanimously passed a resolution expressing support for the city's Muslim community.

“Beaverton prides itself on being a welcoming city and we want all of our residents to feel safe here,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “Especially in difficult times, we must show our support and send a clear message that expressions of hate have no place in our city.”

Doyle comments were directed in favor of a resolution expressing support for the city's Muslim community.

Doyle was speaking Tuesday night as Donald Trump, who has called for banning Muslims from entering the United States, racked up victories in another half-dozen or so primaries.

The resolution, which supports the community and condemns all discrimination and hate speech that targets specific groups, passed unanimously.

“In a time when discrimination and violence against the Muslim community has risen to levels similar to those just after 9/11, this is a powerful statement by our city leaders in support of our community,” said Samira Godil, Diversity Advisory Board member.
