City Drafting Resolution for Public Safety Center Bond Measure

Measure, which would be on the ballot in November, would provide money for a new police and emergency management facility.

Beaverton keeps moving closer to the possibility of a new police facility.

The city council is directing staff to draft a resolution referring a $35 million bond measure to voters in the November election.

If approved it would provide the funding for a new 90,000 square-foot public safety facility that would be home to the city's police department and emergency operations center.

The building would be on city owned property at SW Hall Boulevard and SW Allen Boulevard.

The decision came after a city survey of residents showed 71 percent thought this was a good decision.

"We are extremely delighted with the survey results," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "We know that we still have a lot of work ahead of us, but this level of community support is so encouraging. We can't wait much longer to get this project going, we need to be prepared to keep our city safe."

The bond measure would replace an identical one used to fund construction of the library. That bond expires this year.
