🌱City Petitions Legislature For Renters + Afuri's 'Ramen Lab'

The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing today in Beaverton.

Happy Friday, people of Beaverton! There's lots of foodie-friendly news today, which I hope is a great way to start your weekend. Today's Daily also features some nudges for job opportunities and Beaverton City Government's appeal to the state for measures to prevent nonpayment rent evictions.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. More on the Beaverton School District labor shortage: Christine Pitawanich reports that BSD is offering a $500 cash incentive to folks who sign on for a variety of full-time positions. Among the 550 job opportunities are nutrition services positions, custodians, bus drivers and more. New substitute teachers are not eligible for the incentive. (KGW.com)
  2. The City of Beaverton is urging the Oregon Legislature to help renters. The city was among over 50 other organizations to sign a letter to the governor, the house speaker and the senate president urging the prevention of nonpayment rent evictions. Statewide, 12,000 households potentially face evictions as "safe harbor" measures are coming to a close. (OPB News)
  3. A fan-favorite source of calm is returning to the Beaverton Farmers Market in the near future! Portland Ashwagandha Farm is coming back with their stock of stress-relieving herbs. The company offers other supplements as well, including Tulsi and Blue Vervain. (Beaverton Farmers Market)
  4. It's Fri-yay, which means many of us will be hitting a happy hour spot this evening. That Oregon Life offers a look at Margarita Factory, a regional chain with a location on Northwest Cornell. Click over for a glimpse of some of the restaurant's signature drinks, including the monster 48 oz Large Best in Town Margarita. Happy Hour is celebrated at Margarita Factory from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
  5. A Beaverton downtown staple is expanding to Portland's Slabtown. Brooke Jackson-Glidden reports the brains behind Afuri Izakaya are taking their ramen talents to Northwest Portland with what's been described as a "ramen lab." The new location, which promises a ramen-making display, should open in 2022. (Eater Portland)
