Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Say congrats to our neighbors to the west! Hillsboro was named 7th in Livability's list of Top 100 Best Places to Live in America, a data-based assessment. The site's blurb attributes the ranking to the city's top-notch health care, wineries and family farms and lots of arts and culture options. Beaverton also made the list, coming in at number 39, in part thanks to its great schools, "beautiful city library" and the incoming Reser Center. (Livability)
  2. A Beaverton company is helping bejewel the world, according to a recent press release. The document reveals that Genesis Financial Solutions, headquartered at The Atrium off Southwest 158th Avenue, is expanding its partnership with Signet Jewelers, the world's largest retailer of diamond jewelry. Genesis Financial Solutions is a national leader in non-prime lending. (KY3)
  3. Beaverton's neighbors north of 26 are growing fast. The unincorporated Cedar Hills area saw 37 percent population growth over the last 20 years; the population in unincorporated Bethany has more than doubled. Check out Kelcie Grega's article that weighs the pros and cons of incorporating the Washington County neighborhoods into a new city: "Cedar Creek." 4. A Beaverton man was involved in a fatal accident on Sunday. State troopers say Brian Masters, 39, of Beaverton, was traveling east on 26 when he veered into the opposite lane, hitting and killing 68-year-old Lisa Lawson, of Seaside. Lawson's passenger was also injured. Highway 26 was closed for about four hours as emergency crews handled the situation. (OregonLive)
  5. We can look forward to 12 new pedestrian and biking improvement projects in the area. The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the tasks at its meeting on Tuesday, October 19. Click over to the Washington County site for a full list of project descriptions.
