🌱Craft Day At Beaverton City Library + Festival Of Balloons Continues

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hello, friends. I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through the most important things happening these days in town. Read on to find out where to get vaccinations for folks under the age of 5, more on the string of deaths at the Washington County jail and why a city councilor left before his term was up. Here goes.

First, today's weather:

Sunny and very warm. High: 91 Low: 66.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Beaverton who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Beaverton Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Three individuals died in the last two months while in custody of the Washington County Jail. Typically, the agency experiences one inmate death per year. Reporter Troy Shinn examines the incidences as part of a possible bigger trend and points out a lack of oversight of contracted healthcare providers within the jail. The causes of death for each of the three inmates have not yet been revealed. (Pamplin Media Group)
  2. Metro, the regional agency that serves urban Washington, Multnomah and Clackamas counties, announced on Thursday that it will fund a slew of upcoming THPRD projects. Locals can look forward to a new boardwalk on the Willow Creek Greenway, a new park and trail in the North Bethany neighborhood (Heckman Lane Park) and accessible play structures in Bonny Slope and Rock Creek. (Metro newsfeed)
  3. The State of Oregon recently okayed COVID-19 vaccination shots for children ages 6 months to 5 years, and Lisa Balick reports on where to get them. Oregon Health Authority is operating a walk-in clinic at the Tektronix campus. Vaccines were available beginning Thursday and through the weekend from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday or from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. (KOIN.com)
  4. A Beaverton city councilor revealed on June 21 that he plans to step down in August, four months before term limits were set to end his tenure on the body. Marc San Soucie, who currently serves as Council President and voted to install term limits, will step down four months before his "next set of endeavors begins in September." San Soucie's term was set to end December 31. City Council will decide whether to appoint someone to fill his position before his elected successor takes office on January 1. (Portland Tribune)
  5. Northwest meteorologists say this weekend's heat won't be as dramatic as last year's deadly "heat dome," but they're recommending using this heatwave to prepare for hotter weather. The experts suggest using this weekend to make sure fans and air conditioning units are functioning properly, purchase new ones as necessary and to check on at-risk individuals. Local agencies are also stepping up: Beaverton has extended library hours to create a cooling center, and Washington County has launched a Hot Weather Help website. (Oregon Public Broadcasting)
