For one man in Beaverton the answer was clear - make a sign reading: Hug a police officer today, tell them thanks for what they do."

An off-duty deputy from the Washington County Sheriff's Office saw the man, took him up on the offer, and snapped his picture.

It then got tweeted out by the office.

KATU News identified the man as Richard Wildeman.

"My heart was hurt for the officers and their families and all the people in Dallas so I decided to do something about it, to take a stand," he told the station. "I mean, they risk their lives every day for us, we call 911 and they're there in a minute."
