🌱Delays Loom For BSD Bus Routes + LEGOs @ Central Station Taps

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, people of Beaverton! Ash DeMello here with today's copy of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Freezing fog in the morning. High: 47 Low: 31.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Read about bus driver absences over at KOIN.com. The Beaverton School District says that its seeing 30 to 40 drivers call in sick every day, up from 20 to 24 in the pre-COVID years. Craig Beaver, Administrator for Transportation for BSD, says if the absences reach 43, they'll have to make tough decisions about delays and route changes.
  2. The county broke ground on a new affordable housing development near Washington Square earlier this month. The Terrace Glen Apartments on Greenburg Road in the Metzger neighborhood will feature 144 units designed for families and seniors. Onsite services will include an Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) office, an arts education non-profit and HomePlate. Project managers estimate the complex will be complete in March 2023. (Washington County)
  3. Take a look at hospital capacity in the Beaverton area, available from Beaverton Patch. Most local facilities are reporting around 20 percent of inpatient beds occupied by those with COVID.
  4. Ava Roasteria, which has three locations in Beaverton, is changing its plans for its upcoming headquarters. The company initially planned to build a four-story building with one floor dedicated to Ava's headquarters on the site in downtown Tigard. Because of reduced interest in office space, Ava and its financiers have decided to eliminate that floor altogether. Instead, the building will feature a ground-floor commercial level and two levels of apartments. 5. See how career-technical education programs in Washington County have endured these last few years continue despite pandemic hardships. The vocational training offered by these programs is of high interest to industries as well as students themselves, but hands-on learning is sometimes problematic due to distance learning and social distancing.
