🌱Dog-Friendly Tualatin Valley Breweries + Beaverton Patch Ending?

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, Beaverton! It's Wednesday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on around Beaverton today. Topline news includes a Beaverton man evading police by attempting to swim the North Umpqua River, a return to in-person signature events in Beaverton and a possible end to the Beaverton Patch Daily newsletter.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy, cool; a p.m. shower. High: 57 Low: 44.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A Beaverton man wanted on four warrants was arrested in Douglas County after a pursuit, deputies say. A resident called 9-1-1 on Monday morning regarding an individual loitering beside his car, apparently siphoning fuel. The suspect fled in a vehicle reported stolen from Beaverton, but was arrested later while attempting to swim across the North Umpqua River. The suspect was identified as Aubra Carl Rasmussen, 29, upon being booked into the Douglas County jail. (Fox 12 Oregon)
  2. Readers had a lot to say about a Willamette Week article that came out last week reporting home prices in Beaverton and other "donut" cities being higher than those in Portland proper. One Washington County resident called Portland "dysfunctional," while citing WashCo's superior parks, diversity and security. (Willamette Week)
  3. Did you know that April is Parkinson's Awareness Month? Beaverton joined 17 states and cities nationwide to issue a proclamation about the movement. The annual event is supported in large part by the Michael J. Fox Foundation to bring awareness to the disease. (Parkinson's News Today)
  4. The City of Beaverton announced on April 21 that it's bringing signature city events back in person. Bike Beaverton, Volunteer Fair, Flicks by the Fountain, National Night Out and the Beaverton Celebration Parade, all of which went on a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, are returning soon! The choice to make the return to in-person was partly made in recognition that social connectedness is essential to a healthy community. (Your Beaverton)
  5. Tualatin Valley: Our Oregon recently shared a rundown of dog-friendly breweries in the area. Some of the local drinkeries found on the map are Golden Valley Brewery and Restaurant in Bethany, McMenamins Oak Hills Brewpub, Great Notion Brewery in Cedar Mill and Nebulous Taproom. (Twitter)
