🌱Beaverton Swim School Peeper Pleads Guilty + Councilor Resigns

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy. High: 46 Low: 37.

Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. A swim school worker who was caught secretly recording the staff changing room pleaded guilty this week. The Washington County DA released details about the crime, which took place in September 2019. Mark Allen Seidel was a maintenance worker at the swim school when other staff members discovered his phone placed to video record those in the changing room and reported it to the police. Seidel will be sentenced in February.
  2. After nearly nine years on Beaverton City Council, Mark Fagin says he's resigning from Position 3 for personal reasons. Fagin's resignation is effective January 1, 2022. His position will likely be filled by means of the May elections, although City Council may appoint an interim councilor. (Beaverton Patch)
  3. Here's more on the Beaverton native Gloria Calderón Kellett's new series. Willamette Week's Chance Solem-Pfeifer shares details about the Amazon Prime dramedy, "With Love," which is set in Portland. The creator hopes to bring diversity to the genre. Click over to get a rendition of Kellet's performance in a Beaverton Mall ad, circa 1988.
  4. Beaverton police say that online predators are on the rise. Case in point: The recent arrest and sentencing of Douglas Edward Mulloy, 78, who thought he was luring a 15-year-old girl via an online chat (it was a middle-aged cop, BTW). Detective Chad Opitz says that it's becoming increasingly important for parents to monitor kids' online activities and implement safety measures and suggests a fixed amount of allowed screen time. 5. Check out two of the latest additions to the home buying market in the Beaverton area. Each home offers over four bedrooms and over 2000 square feet. Both are hosting open houses this upcoming Saturday, December 18. (Beaverton Patch)
