Eight Beaverton School District Students Awarded $2,500 National Merit Scholarships

The 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students for their commitment to not only their academics but also their communities.

BEAVERTON, OR — For their commitment to academics and the resulting evidence of their hard work, eight high school seniors from the Beaverton School District were awarded with scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Program, district officials announced Wednesday.

Chosen from more than 15,000 finalists, according to the district, the eight Beaverton students were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who reviewed the students' academic records, two standardized test scores, their involvement at school and within their respective communities, and letters of recommendation from their high school officials. Each student was awarded a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship.

  • Lucia Zheng — International School of Beaverton;
  • Kaitlyn Stoehr— Southridge High School;
  • Markab Han, Mara Pearson, and Rohan Varma — Sunset High School; and
  • Bryan Lee, Anshuman Radhakrishnan, and Priyansh Sharma — Westview High School.

The number of scholarship recipients from each state is proportional to the national percentage of graduating high school seniors.
