Salutations, neighbors! It's me again with the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather: Partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 79 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Washington County deputies arrested a FedEx driver last Friday for alleged sexual assault of a child in Aloha. A parent reported that the driver, later identified as Alejandro Negrete, 24, lured a 9-year-old girl to his van after making a delivery at a neighboring home. FedEx is cooperating with investigators. (Fox12)
  2. Sally Segar reports on a pause in upgrades to the Scoggins Dam due to unexpectedly high costs. Experts say that the facility, managed by Clean Water Services, needs modifications estimated in the range of $770 million to $1.2 billion. The dam is said to be functioning safely but needs upgrades to withstand a large earthquake. (Pamplin Media Group)
  3. Gresham Police's Interim Chief, Claudio Grandjean, compares his traffic issues with those of other Portland suburbs in an article by Christopher Keizur. Grandjean notes that while Beaverton has 21 dedicated traffic officers, Gresham has only four. He draws a correlation to serious traffic accidents: In 2020, Beaverton had 11; Gresham, 21. (Pamplin Media Group)
  4. It seems folks have some strong opinions about the offal burrito that may have caused a false positive drug test. Willamette Week published some of its readers' responses to Robin Donovan's story about a search for the Beaverton burrito blamed for Shelby Houlihan's contentious drug test. Feedback included complaints that suggest some felt the story over-promised without providing a satisfying answer to accusations against the Olympic hopeful, while others questioned Houlihan's palate or dietary choices. (Willamette Week)
  5. Those who adore the fizzy, low-ABV goodness of "The Claw" should head over to the Bethany area on September 25, when the Seltzerland tour hits the Claremont Golf Club. This is the first year for the event celebrating hard seltzer. Besides quintessential White Claw, participating brands will include Mike's Hard Lemonade Seltzer, Jose Cuervo's Playamar, Vizzy and Coors Seltzer. (Willamette Week)
