Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. As the Bootleg Fire continues getting larger, TVF&D firefighters are heading out to Southern Oregon to assist. The dangerous fire is growing, reportedly burning about 144,000 acres near Chiloquin as of Sunday afternoon. (FOX12)
  2. With COVID-19 restrictions lifted, annual summer events like the Washington County Fair are returning. Even though organizers got a bit of a late start because of pandemic uncertainties, the fair will feature most of the rides, food, farm animals and other attractions from former years. It will also be the first year the fair will use the Wingspan Event & Conference Center, which was completed in 2020. (Pamplin Media Group)
  3. The American Rescue Plan is sending $240 million in federal funds to Northwest Oregon, and $1.5 million is earmarked for HomePlate Youth Services. The organization offers resources and shelter to people ages 12 through 24. This new money will help renovate a 6,000-square-foot building that will serve as a drop-in center for homeless youth.   4. Notorious Nike extortioner Michael Avenatti was sentenced late last week by a New York judge. Stormy Daniels' former attorney will spend 2-1/2 years in prison for threatening to sully the apparel company's reputation unless he was paid millions of dollars. (L.A. Times)
  5. For those looking for fun things to do nearby, the city of Hillsboro is anticipating a full slate of summer activities. Popular events like the Showtime Concert Series, Celebrate Hillsboro and Pix in the Park are all returning after a year off due to the pandemic. (Pamplin Media Group)
