🌱Foodie Edition! + Kabocha Donuts + Beer Fest + Loyal Legion!

The Beaverton Daily is the quickest way to get caught up on everything going down around town today.

(Patch Media)

Rise and shine, Beaverton! Let's get you all caught up to start this Wednesday, November 10, off on an informed note. Readers beware: There's so much foodie news today, so you should probably plan on taking a jaunt to one of the restaurants earmarked below, or at least don't read this edition of the Beaverton Daily while hungry.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy, a shower in the PM. High: 53 Low: 48.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Read Portland Monthly's Q&A with Chef Sam Smith, Tusk alum and current face of Sweedeedee. The Portland-based food aficionado offers recommendations for Beaverton's food scene multiple times, with a special shout-out for Desi Bites (16165 SW Regatta Ln #300, Beaverton). Check out Smith's newest endeavor, the foodie-friendly Instagram account @slamb_eating, next time you're trying to decide where to eat or in the mood for a foodie meme.
  2. More from the food-news genre: A 'Top Chef Portland' star wants to spice up your taste buds with a different kind of donut at Beaverton's own Japanese bakery, Oyatsupan. Chef Sara Hauman, who won Fan Favorite on the long-running Bravo reality competition, took a field trip to the Westside to collaborate with Oyatsupan's chef/owner Hiro Horie. Working with kabocha squash and mushrooms, the pair created a seasonal filling for the shop's savory donuts. Learn more about the creative process over at KGW.com.
  3. Uptown Beer Co. announces its 2021 Black Saturday Dark Beer Fest. Scheduled for Saturday, November 27, this year's festival will be an in-person opportunity to taste 20 dark beers from an array of local talent. Head on over to the article to learn how to get some tickets! (New School Beer + Cider)
  4. It's official: Beaverton's outdoor dining program is permanent. Open Air Beaverton started in response to pandemic restrictions and continues to be a success. After over a year of ad hoc operation, the city government created new guidelines to ensure the long-term viability of the program. The guidelines were finalized last week on November 4, and will go into effect in September 2022. Read locals' reactions to the news at KPTV.com.
  5. And finally, if today's edition of the Daily hasn't given you enough destinations for your week, Patch has a round-up of upcoming events in the area. Join the library for a book chat, tune into the city's Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting or take a watercolor class from Tualatin Valley Creates. There's also opportunity to post your own events via Patch's featured event form.
