You've made it to Friday, Beaverton! Here's everything you need to know to get today started off right.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and cool. High: 50 Low: 28.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. High schools around the state are creating special spaces to help students deal with stress and anxiety, Christine Pitawanich reports. At Beaverton High School, they recently opened the Wellness Lab, a spot for students to seek relaxation throughout the day. People behind the efforts say that they're "essential for students' mental health and well-being." (KGW.com)
  2. A Beaverton family faces continued struggles that reporter Elizabeth Miller links to the Oregon Department of Education not offering adequate services for their disabled child. A bill related to such allegations was not passed in the 2022 short legislative session. Read about local parents Christy Croghan and Kevin Toon and their efforts to get an education for their medically-fragile son, Hayden, over at Oregon Public Broadcasting.
  3. Did you get some snow on Thursday? Washington County Government offers its second 2022 February Ice Update, which you can read at the Press Release Desk. Although government buildings remain open, WashCo officials urge caution while traveling.
  4. What's ahead in terms of weather this weekend? Click over to the Beaverton Patch for a weather forecast. Hint: There's not likely to be more snow, but we are in line for rain.
  5. Even though it's been cold, the Beaverton Farmers Market is loaded with seasonal veggies to keep your winter cooking vibrant and healthy. If you head over to the market on Saturday, you're likely to find limequats, Meyer lemons, fresh ginger and turmeric along with cabbages, leeks, squash and even hydroponically-grown tomatoes.
