Haruka Weiser's Family Setting up Scholarship Fund

Her death leaves "a profound void in the future of American dance and in the hearts of those who loved her."

The family of Haruka Weiser is working with the Arts and Communication Magnet Academy to set up a scholarship in her honor.

Haruka, who grew up in Portland and went to the Academy in Beaverton, was murdered last week in Austin where she was attending the University of Texas.

Her death left "a profound void in the future of American dance and in the hearts of those who loved her," the school said in a brief statement.

The scholarship will be awarded to graduating students "who aspire to continue in their artistic studies."

The school has set up a website where people can donate.

Weiser was a student at the academy from sixth grade until her graduation last year.

A homeless teen was arrested and charged with her killing.
