🌱Hazmat Heads To Nike HQ + Decreasing 'Spread' When Traveling

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:
- A tweet went out late Tuesday evening about a possible fire at Nike World HQ. The US Sun reports that rescue crews reported to the second floor of Nike's fitness center, where they discovered a refrigerator leak. A hazmat team was dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported.
- A man who traveled from Florida to participate in the Portland protests last summer and later robbed a convenience store has been sentenced. Jarrod DeFerrari pleaded guilty to charges related to the protests, armed robbery of a 7-Eleven on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and multiple other havoc-wreaking doings. A Washington County judge sentenced him to 90 months in prison on December 21. (KOIN.com)
- Stay informed with the latest update on hospital capacity in the Beaverton area from Beaverton Patch. Suspected COVID cases occupying hospital beds hovers around 10 percent, with the exception of Legacy Meridian Park in Tualatin reporting possible COVID cases occupying over 42 percent on ICU beds.
- The New York Times (subscription required) reported on US Center for SafeSport's Wednesday ruling that Alberto Salazar would not be allowed to participate in any activity associated with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee or any other sport national governing body. Nike has removed his name from its Beaverton campus, shut down the Oregon Project with which he was associated and no longer contracts with him as a coach.
- KOIN.com reports on extra-long lines at vaccination sites like Tektronix given a) the holidays and b) the omicron variant. Present says it is worthwhile to reconsider travel this season to ensure loved ones stay safe. She also offers tips for decreasing "spread," especially when traveling.

- As a lifelong Oregonian, it is both my shame and my pride that I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE SNOW. Thank goodness for organizations like Beaverton Downtown Association that offer some realistic perspective on the possibility of upcoming snow and what we should do.
