Hazmat Situation Near Bridgeport Village Sends Man to Hospital

A toxic gas leak at a Lasik eye surgery clinic near Bridgeport Village sent one man to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Tualatin Valley Fire and rescue responded to the clinic bear the 7400 block of SW Bridgeport Road.

They had been told that an employee had been exposed to the potentially harmful gases used in the procedure while changing out a cylinder.

Firefighters called for the department's Hazardous Material Team to back them up.

The patient was treated for exposure to gases including Fluorine and Helium and brought to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for evaluation.

The situation was brought under control in about 90 minutes.
