(Patch Media)

Welcome Beaverton! It's the first of March. We're rounding the corner on winter and heading towards daylight savings time. Ash DeMello has earned herself a little vacation so I'll be filling in here for a couple of days so that you still get all the local news you need to start your day. - Merlin Douglass

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy, a little rain. High: 57 Low: 50.

Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Governor Kate Brown has decided to lift the mask mandate in Oregon as of March 12. Saying although she doesn't believe the pandemic is over, she is lifting the mandate at the same time that California and Washington do the same thing. The change will not affect regulations for masks in healthcare settings, on airplanes or on public transit among other places. 2. Beaverton fav restaurant decarli has announced it is moving to the old Hometown Buffet site on Hall Boulevard some time this spring. They say the new space is bigger and the parking situation will be better. (Facebook)
  3. If the world situation seems a bit trying lately, the Beaverton Library's got you. They have produced a loving kindness meditation for YouTube. The 4 minute 6 second video by librarian, Sarah, offers a gentle, healing interactive meditation exercise that can be accessed here. (YouTube)
  4. Speaking of healing, the City of Beaverton is offering grants for peace builders in our community. The date for application is rolling and they are currently taking applications. Successful applicants will be notified approximately 4 weeks after submitting their applications. Grants are up to $1,500 per project. (City of Beaverton)
  5. Beaverton High School has announced they are currently accepting applications for the spring athletics season. Application is online and the school reminds parents and students that each student athlete has to have a physical exam, must be currently enrolled and passing their classes. Thanks to a donor, fees for participating have been reduced and payments can be arranged. (Beaverton High School)

Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.
Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.
