🌱Hit-And-Run At SW Oleson Gas Station + Basics Market Coming To Aloha

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good morning friends and neighbors. Today there's lots to read about — a free fire fighting camp for young women, to Washington County's top dog, a murder suspect is convicted and a man allegedly intentionally drove into a gas station attendant. I'm Merlin Douglass, and let's get started.

First, today's weather:

A little rain lurking in the forecast and cloudy. High: 70 Low: 54

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Washington County romance writer Nancy Crampton Brophy has been found guilty of second-degree murder by a jury in the 2018 killing of her husband, Daniel Brophy. The jury began consideration at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday morning, and by noon on Wednesday, they had reached a verdict. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 13. (Beaverton Patch)
  2. A driver intentionally ran into a Shell gas station attendant on Southwest Oleson Road, Beaverton police say. The agency released footage of the May 22 incident (beware: it's not for the faint of heart) as well as a picture of the suspect. They're looking for the community's help to identify the man driving the vehicle, who they say was involved in an argument with the gas station attendant before the attack. (KGW.com)
  3. Following an eight-month investigation, a Washington County grand jury has indicted 18-year-old Brock McCullough on 15 charges, including charges of sodomy, sexual abuse, unlawful use of a weapon, witness tampering and menacing. Following the indictment a Secret Indictment Arrest Warrant was issued for McCullough, and he was lodged in Washington County jail on $1.29 million bail. Multiple victims have come forward already, and Sherwood police are seeking others. (KOIN)
  4. Basics Market is opening its "biggest store yet" in Aloha in mid to late June. It will have an espresso bar and a protein counter with plant-based and meat options, a smoothie and juice bar and an ice cream shop in addition to the regular offerings. It's going to be in the previous Bales Thriftway location, 17675 SW Farmington Road. The space has been vacant since 2019. (Facebook)
  5. Who's a good dog? K9 Bolo and his partner, Deputy Zaugg from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, have taken first place in the 15th annual premier police K9 competition held in Hillsboro Stadium last weekend. This competition was the first in two years as the event was shut down for COVID. (Twitter)
