Hello, neighbors! Ash DeMello here with the Wednesday copy of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

High clouds and cool. High: 53 Low: 42.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. There's finally some closure regarding the Legionnaires' disease outbreak that occurred in October. The bacteria infected at least six locals, sending four individuals to the hospital. Although officials can't pin it down as 'the' source, Washington County public health investigators did find legionella bacteria at a shared apartment complex hot tub in the Murrayhill neighborhood. No other cases have been reported since the initial outbreak, officials say. (KPTV.com)
  2. THPRD is seeking public input on a new sport court in our neck-o-the-woods. Mountain View Champions Park is scheduled to be finished in 2023. It will be designed to be fully accessible to people experiencing disabilities. The agency is seeking public comments on the new facilities. Click the link to find out how to share your thoughts! (Beaverton Patch)
  3. The wake of the tragedy at the Travis Scott concert touches home as locally headquartered apparel giant Nike postpones the release of the musician's eponymous sneaker. Ten people died earlier this month during a crowd surge at the rapper's performance in Houston, including a nine-year-old boy. Nike reps say the move is a 'sign of respect for everyone impacted by the Astroworld tragedy.' (KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2)
  4. An Oregon National Guard member from Beaverton is helping resettle Afghan refugees. 1st Lieutenant Kara Lerwick of Beaverton's current assignment with Operation Allies Welcome has her working at Camp Atterbury in Indiana to process around 7000 displaced Afghans. Read more about her work at OPB News.
  5. The City of Beaverton is opening one of three Washington County winter shelters for those experiencing homelessness. Just Compassion of East Washington County is operating the shelter in collaboration with the city and Washington County Supporting Housing Services. The location at Beaverton Community Center at 12350 SW 5th Street is slated to stay open through at least March 15. (Press Release Desk)
