Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Washington County special election votes are in. The controversial Jeanette Schade gathered 33.72% of votes, losing to incumbent Susan Greenburg for Beaverton School District 48J Director, Zone 1. (Oregon Secretary of State)
  2. Other Washington County special election school board wins include Karen Perez-Da Silva (Zone 2), Sunita Garg (Zone 4) and Ugonna Enyinnaya (Zone 5). Ashley Hartmeier-Prigg assumes the vacant city council position. (Beaverton School District)
  3. Reporter Mark Mill reports Governor Kate Brown's announcement that Washington County is cleared for "Lower Risk" status beginning tomorrow, Friday, May 21. (Beaverton Valley Times)
  4. Amid lots of masking news, officials from Beaverton School District state that they will no longer be requiring student-athletes to wear masks when they are actively playing, effective yesterday. Spectators and other players should continue to wear masks at games. (@beavertonsd)

  • The City of Beaverton is holding a public hearing via Zoom on the city's proposed budget for 2021-2022 tonight, May 20, which will include a discussion of allocating funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, also known as the Covid-19 Stimulus Package. (6 p.m.)

  • During a work session of Hillsboro's City Council Tuesday night, researchers revealed the latest stats on homelessness in Washington County, measured in January 2021. Of the County's 357 unsheltered residents, 64 sit in Beaverton.
