Local Leaders Heading to Washington D.C. to Advocate for Oregon Schools

The Oregon School Boards Associations is sending members to meet with elected officials.

Members of the Oregon School Boards Association are heading to Washington, D.C. next week to advocate for Oregon Schools.

Members will meet with elected officials including Senators Ron Wyden and jeff Merkley as well as Representatives Earl Blumnauer, Suzanne Bonamici, Peter DeFazio, Kurt Schrader, and Greg Walden.

The association says they will address a a variety of topics, including: upholding local governance and flexibility while implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA); reauthorizing the Child Nutrition Act; increasing federal funding for Title I; and discussing long-term solutions to ensure that county timber payments continue to support public schools.

Among the people making the trip are the association's president-elect, Betty Reynolds from the West Linn-Wilsonville School District and LeeAnnLarsen from the Beaverton School District.
