Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. U.S. Marshals arrested a suspect in a 2017 Beaverton murder case on Wednesday, June 8. Authorities allege that the suspect, Jimmy Pierce, 35, shot and killed Ramon Harris outside Xpose Club on Southwest Canyon Road on May 19, 2017. Police believe the shooting was not random but have not yet revealed the connection between Harris and Pierce. (KGW.com)
  2. A man who ran an international sex trafficking ring was sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday. The sentencing follows 59-year-old Mark Chen's guilty plea in March in a federal court to crimes that included luring women from China to serve as prostitutes in multiple cities, including Beaverton. (Beaverton Patch)
  3. Beaverton rose growers were well-represented at the Portland Rose Show on Thursday, June 9. One award went to a downtown gardener, Terry Glickman, who was recently featured in our very own Merlin Douglass's blog for the Beaverton Downtown Association. Locals also were awarded in Best Spray and Open Bloom categories. (OregonLive)
  4. Home prices are rising fast in Beaverton and Northwest Washington County, according to analysis by Julia Silverman. Beaverton/Aloha ranked fifth among Portland Metro areas in April. In May, it rose to third. During that same time, Northwest Washington County (think Bethany, Cedar Mill) ranked first. (Portland Monthly)
  5. A very special time in Oregon has begun: Strawberry Season! The Beaverton Farmers Market Newsletter reports that despite a slow start, the sweet red gems will be available on Saturday. One vendor promises Hoods, so you might want to lineup early.
