Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing today in town.

(Patch Media)

You've made it to Friday, everyone! So let's get you started with everything you need to know going on in town today. Read on to find out more about where to get your wine for happy hour tonight (there are multiple options!), an adorable pooch rescue and a local politician who feels embarrassed.

First, today's weather: Mostly cloudy throughout the day. High: 75 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Reporter Elise Haas talked to Carl Mead, BSD deputy superintendent, about back-to-school preparations given the COVID-19 uptick. Mead said they've put effort into encouraging eligible students to get the vaccine as well as creating plenty of opportunities to get the shot. He also mentioned changes to lunch routines, including free lunch for all students this school year. (KOIN.com)
  2. People who slouch mask rules may face consequences in the upcoming days. The Washington County Board of Commissioners met Wednesday and unanimously agreed to enforce Oregon's statewide mask mandates within the county. Business owners face a maximum fine of $500 per day of violations. (Washington County Visitors Association)
  3. State Senator Kate Lieber (D-Beaverton) made Willamette Week's ignominious list of "Hydro Hogs." Lieber expressed her embarrassment after learning that her household used enough water to run the dishwasher 329,641 times. She says she plans on replacing her home's irrigation system this winter. (Willamette Week)
  4. The Beaverton High School coach with a foul mouth is off the hook— for now. BSD officials investigated football coach Bob Boyer after students say he repeated lyrics that included a racial slur. The district's initial decision was that Boyers did not violate school policy, but the mother of the student who interacted with Boyer is appealing this decision. District officials say they will continue their investigation. (Pamplin Media Group)
  5. Another daring animal rescue by TVF&R. This time, firefighters suited up and crawled under a home to save Batman. The 15-pound pooch had made his way under the house and got stuck in ductwork. Observers say that Batman was tired after the ordeal but happy to be free. (Twitter)
