🌱Mountainside Teen Featured In 'People' + Dogs Of Chernobyl

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good day, neighbors! Ash DeMello here with the latest issue of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

A little morning rain. High: 52 Low: 38.

Here are the top fivestories in Beaverton today:

  1. "Portland's loss is Beaverton's gain" is a narrative that seems to be playing out over and over again these days (although the deeper story is typically more complex in most cases). The trend isn't just local. Reporter Amy Milshtein notes that the number of Americans choosing to live the suburb life increased by 10% between 2010 and 2020. Milshtein explores the trend through the lens of a local business owner, Tamara Sullivan. (Oregon Business)
  2. A local teen is gracing the pages of PEOPLE following a cruel prank linked to a TikTok challenge. Mountainside High School junior Olivia Ross was a freshman when she was invited to join upperclassmen in making a video clip. Unbeknownst to Ross, the video was part of the "Skullbreaker Challenge," and Ross ended up with a concussion. Click over to the article to learn how Ross is using the experience to help spread kindness these days.
  3. A man with ties to Beaverton was arrested after the DEA seized 115,000 fake pills containing fentanyl. Authorities say Luis Antonio Beltran Arrendondo, 32, and an accomplice, Jacqueline Paola Rodriguez Barrientos, 41, laundered money associated with sales of the drugs through the Mazatlán Beauty Salon on SW Boones Ferry Road in Tualatin and by buying real estate, including two properties in Beaverton. Arrendondo and Barrientos made their first appearance in Federal Court on Tuesday, March 15, after being arrested in Las Vegas in February. (KATV)
  4. A Beaverton woman is out of the hospital after being stabbed by a stranger at her home just north of the Beaverton Transit Center in early March. Lauren Carrier spent two weeks in the hospital after a man forced his way into her apartment, beating her and stabbing her ten times. The man, identified as Bryan Aguilera, 27, has been indicted on several charges, including attempted murder. Read about Carrier's experience and recovery at Fox 12 Oregon.
  5. A woman has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of identity theft after she allegedly stole $60,000 from a Cedar Mill woman. The Washington County Sheriff's Office has identified at least 21 additional victims of fraud connected to Jobee Rene McCann, 35, and they say there are likely others. McCann was arrested last month.
