Muslim Educational Trust To Host Community-Building Public Forum Sunday
Western States Center Executive Director Kelly Weigel will be the featured speaker at the Aug. 27 event in Beaverton.

BEAVERTON, OR — In its ongoing push to remove community building barriers and establish trust among neighbors, the Muslim Educational Trust on Sunday is hosting a gathering in Beaverton to give the community an opportunity to discuss "what they are for here in Oregon" in a safe, respectful, and controlled environment.
The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) for years has held events that bring together people of all faiths and backgrounds in an effort to show everyone that we're all not so different if we give ourselves the chance to get to know one another, and the public forum from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Southminster Presbyterian Church, 12250 S.W. Denney Rd. in Beaverton, is no different.
Speaking at the public forum Aug. 27 is Kelly Weigel, executive director of the Western States Center, a Portland-based nonprofit that since 1987 has worked to connect and build up community organizations toward the goal of achieving "racial, gender and economic justice," according to its website.

According to MET spokeswoman Rania Ayoub, "Weigel will offer her own vision of the kind of world she is working for, and offer us some guiding questions to do the same."
Dinner will be provided by the Beloved Community of Oregon, Ayoub said.
