New Beaverton Police Chief Jim Monger Sworn In

Monger has been with department for 30 years.

For Jim Monger, who has been with the Beaverton Police Department for three decades, it became official on Tuesday. He was sworn in as the city's Interim Chief of Police.

Monger actually took over for Geoff Spaulding who stepped down in July.

On Tuesday, he was sworn in at the City Council meeting at the Beaverton Building at their 6:30 meeting.

"I have every confidence in Captain Monger’s leadership abilities," said Mayor Denny Doyle said when appointing Monger. “He has been our project manager on the proposed public safety facility and I have gotten a chance to work closely with him.

"He has done an outstanding job working with our community partners and internally with the rank and file men and women of the department."

Monger, who served in the Marine Corps, spent 13 years as a patrol officer, eight years as a sergeant, five years as a lieutenant, and the last three years as captain.

“It is a privilege to serve this community and I am honored to have this opportunity to lead the department I’ve called home for more than 30 years,” Monger said last month.
