Here's the latest on what's happening in Beaverton, delivered straight to your inbox — for free!

Hello, people of Beaverton! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Beaverton Daily.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy and warmer. High: 56 Low: 48.
Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- Beaverton schools are joined by schools across Oregon in making November 12 a staff-only day. Elizabeth Miller reports on the wide range of districts that are choosing to make Friday a day for teacher planning or simply closing schools because of potential substitute shortages, as in Lincoln County. Other districts report general fatigue as students and families adjust to in-person learning. Read more at OPB News.
- Police responded to shots fired in SW Portland near The Original Pancake House on Spring Garden Street on Sunday. When they arrived at the scene, police found the suspect, identified as Eric Lee Presley, Jr., hiding in bushes with a semi-automatic weapon. Presley was taken into custody and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful discharge of a weapon. (KOIN)
- Exciting news for Cedar Mill! The vacant former Bales Thriftway on Northwest Cornell will soon be a Target, Cedar Mill News confirmed. The outlet reports the new tenant will likely be a "small format" store, complete with a pharmacy and grocery section. Check out the Target website to get an idea of what the new location will look like!
- You know it; I know it: Millennials have a 'thing' for house hunting. If you can even partially relate, or you're actually in the market, check out Patch's latest roundup of Beaverton-area homes. Options include a 1980s ranch that looks boring from the outside but really brings it when it comes to the windows and lack of HOA and a generously-sized family-home near Uwajimaya.
- Finally, get a heads-up on the week ahead with a five-day weather forecast for the area from Patch. Survey says there will be rain most days, but it won't be too cold. Look forward to lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s with precipitation most days.
