Hey, Beaverton! Ash DeMello here with your fresh copy of the Beaverton Daily, filled with all the things you need to know about what's happening locally. Follow along for the latest.

First, today's weather:

Warmer with high clouds. High: 75 Low: 54.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Beaverton who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Beaverton Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A Washington County court sentenced a man to 15 years in prison on Monday for various crimes, including first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. Officials began investigating Darby Jay Martin, 28, after a teen came forward saying Martin had given her and her cousin LSD before assaulting one of them. The investigation revealed at least three additional teens with whom Martin was involved. (KPTV.com)
  2. Did you know that the region's only breast milk bank is located in Tigard? It's called the Northwest Mother's Milk Bank, and it's playing an important role for families in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho as the nation's formula shortage continues. Workers at the bank said that although need has increased, donations have also increased. (Pamplin Media Group; subscription required)
  3. A Beaverton man turned to a unique hobby after he was furloughed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dan Bieltz combined his interest in cemeteries and history into a video project. Visit the Forgotten Cemeteries of the PNW along with Bieltz via Youtube. (Gales Creek Journal; subscription required)
  4. A new elementary school near Aloha needs a name, and it's the last week to weigh in. The Hillsboro School District is conducting a survey, found here, to help make the decision. Possibilities include the Kalapuyan word for "place of the big trees," Thurgood Marshall, Virginia Meek and others. Click over to share your opinion! (Portland Tribune)
  5. Got that resume ready but nowhere to send it? Take a look at the latest job openings in and around Beaverton over at the Beaverton Patch. The Port of Portland, Experian, OnPoint Community Credit Union and many others are among the companies hiring these days.

  • As part of my @BeavertonEats social takeover this week, I'm testing your knowledge of local Downtown Beaverton restaurants. Head over to Instagram to see the sights and make your guess! (Winner wins the deep respect of their peers.)
  • With the ground still soggy from our especially wet spring, it might be hard to imagine that wildfire season approaches. But that's no reason to be unconcerned. Stay alert and attend a Ready, Set, Go session from TVF&R on June 9 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Register via this link.
