(Patch Media)

Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know going on locally today.

First, today's weather:

Clouds and sun with a shower. High: 53 Low: 33.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. National Public Health Week runs April 4-10, and Washington County honored five local individuals and groups who've made an impact in recognition of the occasion. Among the honorees was Araceli Acosta, a youth outreach specialist with the Beaverton City Library. Acosta was recognized for organizing virtual content to provide literacy activities for children, even when they couldn't come to in-person storytimes because of the pandemic. Click over to the Beaverton Valley Times to find out what other groups WashCo selected (subscription link available here).
  2. A local business is expanding. Mari's Little Lambs, a Beaverton-based childcare company, announced it will be adding a new facility in Oregon City. The expansion will create 60 spots for children, parents of whom have been facing increasing challenges in finding affordable childcare. The facility is set to open in May. (Digital Journal)
  3. A Forest Grove-based artist was recently featured in The New York Times (subscription required). Read about Julian Gaines' pondering of art, race and Oregon when you click the link.
  4. ICYMI: Summer registration for THPRD activities is open now! Click the link to get you or your littles set up with swim lessons, camps, field trips and more. (Twitter)
  5. See the latest adoptable pets at Beaverton-area shelters at the Beaverton Patch. From Angela the Puppy to Charli the Cat, there are a wide range of breeds and ages available for love.

Today in Beaverton:

  • Toddler Storytime (at Main) - Beaverton City Library welcomes the littles for stories, songs and fun. Ideal for ages 2-3 years. (10:15 a.m.)
  • Virtual Family Story Time - Can't make it in person to the library? The Tigard Public Library offers a virtual story session at 10:30 a.m. Register to get the link.
  • Downtown Hillsboro Art Walk - Peruse works from local artists and explore local shops every first Tuesday. (5 p.m. - 8 p.m.)
  • Patrick's "Still" Got The Blues Jam - $5 at the door will buy you an evening of music featuring guest artist Lisa Mann @ At The Garages in Lake Oswego. (7:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • Hillsboro Parks & Rec is celebrating Earth Day on April 23. Head down to the Jackson Bottom Wetlands for activities, a native plant sale and much more! $5. (Instagram)
  • And here's a link to KOIN.com's livestream of the Crampton Brody trial, which opened Monday, April 4. Nancy Crampton Brody, a Washington County-based romance novelist, is accused of shooting and killing her husband back in 2018.
