🌱Orchard Hardware To Be Climbing Gym + Bonnie Hays Helps Strays

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Happy Sunday, people of Beaverton! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today.

First, today's weather:

Intervals of clouds and sun. High: 48 Low: 32.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Beaverton School District sent out a letter Thursday outlining updates to afterschool/extracurricular programs. The updates were in response to the Oregon Health Authority's recommendation to put such programs on hold through the month of January. Although the district didn't halt all extracurriculars, Kelcie Grega reports that afterschool social events, like school dances, and activities that require overnight travel will be on pause indefinitely. 2. There's another great opportunity for student artists in Beaverton— the Youth Arts Award, sponsored by the Beaverton Arts Program. The organization is offering ten scholarships of $2,500 each to student artists of all mediums, including performing arts. 3. Nick Krupke visited Beaverton High School to profile twin sisters and three-sport student-athletes Hannah and Erin Rice. The teens are looking to help take the Beavers to championships for basketball this spring. The team is currently at the number one spot in the OSAA rankings. (KPTV.com)
  4. Good news for fitness-minded folks in the area: The old Orchard Hardware building on Barnes Road will soon be home to a rock climbing gym! Construction is set to start late this year, with a target completion date in 2023. Learn more about incoming development over at the latest edition of the Cedar Mill News.
  5. If you've ever lost a pet in the Beaverton area, you may have found yourself contacting the good people at Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter. The center is part of Washington County's Animal Services' network, offering a spot for stray animals to stay and then helping reconnect these animals with their original owners. Find out more about the agency's work and what happens to lost pets over at Cedar Mill News.
