🌱Oregon Judge Faces Child Porn Charges + Portland Home Prices Drop
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Hello friends and neighbors. Thursday is upon us and I'm glad you're here. I am Merlin Douglass, regular guest curator, and here's what you need to know today.
First, today's weather:
Thunderstorms in the forecast. High: 50 Low: 31
Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- Unbelievably, Portland real estate prices are lower than nearby suburban areas like Beaverton. Although Aloha, Gresham, Troutdale and Vancouver (Washington) real estate prices still fall below Portland median home prices, many nearby areas such as Hillsboro and Tigard are significantly higher. Portland prices fell 1.6% compared to last year while locations such as Happy Valley, Hillsboro and Troutdale grew more than 20%. (Willamette Week)
- Eastwood Elementary in Hillsboro and Aloha-Huber Park in the Beaverton School District were beneficiaries of Blazer largess recently. The Portland Trailblazer Foundation's "Take it to the Court for Education" grant program announced that both schools will receive part of the $125,000 allocated for school activities across the state. The school will spend the money on bilingual textbooks and school programs. (Hillsboro News Times, subscription required)
- Chief Administrative Law Judge John Mann was placed in a Washington County jail last month after his arrest on child pornography charges. He was released on bail hours later but faces ten charges of first degree encouraging child sexual abuse. Mann was arraigned Monday in Washington County Circuit Court and has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. (KOIN)
- Beaverton police recently helped indict nine people in federal court in New York on Tuesday. The nine defendants were members of an organized racketeering gang based in Queens, New York, that sent women — mostly Chinese citizens — to various states to engage in prostitution. While the women were in hotel rooms around the nation, including ones in Beaverton, Oregon, the gang viciously beat them to ensure compliance and loyalty. States in which the alleged activities took place included Oregon, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Texas and Washington. (United States Department of Justice)
- If you and your family are celebrating Ramadan, you might be interested to know that a mosque in Aloha is hosting drive-through iftar meals. The congregation at the Islamic Society of Greater Portland, 16100 SW Blanton Street in Beaverton, is preparing and handing out meals Friday through Sunday beginning at 7:15 P.M for Ramadan which ends May 1 this year. Iftar is the meal celebrants eat after sundown during Ramadan when the day's fasting is done. (ISP)

There are load limits and container conditions to be observed. (Metro)
