🌱Oregon Sports Hall Of Fame Garage Sale + WashCo Census Findings

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Happy Friday, people of Beaverton! Let's get this day started off right. These are the most important things going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 58 Low: 41.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. A North Portland restaurateur says he's ditching NoPo for the suburban life. Jaime Soltero Jr., owner of Tamale Boys, says he's relocating the small chain's headquarters off North Russel due to too much vandalism and too many break-ins. Although Soltero has a Happy Valley location in the works, the article doesn't rule out a Tamale Boys Beaverton. Soltero says getting questions answered by city workers from suburbs like Beaverton and Tigard has been much easier than communicating with Portland officials. (Fox12)
  2. Are you a sports enthusiast? Do you have a 'man cave' or 'lady cave' or just a 'cave' in general that could use some sports memorabilia to complete the décor? Good news for you! The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame is holding a moving sale this weekend in Beaverton. The sale will also feature office furniture, televisions and framed (non-sports) materials. The effort is in response to its lack of a permanent home but that's another story. (OregonLive)
  3. Check out Washington County Government's Census 2020 Findings (Part 1) via the Press Release Desk. Click over to view a video presentation of the findings, scroll through the presentation slides or skim our region's overview at the Federal Government website.
  4. Beaverton's incoming arts venue was recently featured in The Portland Mercury. The Reser Center's March showings from the acclaimed Zimbabwean quintet, Nobunto, and the Oregon Symphony are so very highly anticipated, but the free day-long live music and family-friendly event called Shine the Light: Community Celebration on March 15 seems destined for greatness.
  5. Got some plans for the weekend, Beaverton? Get prepared with the Weather Forecast for the Weekend Ahead from Beaverton Patch. Personally, I'm excited for temps in the 50s and lotsa sun!

From my notebook:

  • Today is National Inventors' Day! Did you know the wiki was invented by Beavertonian Ward Cunningham? A type of dialysis machine was also developed here by Beaverton High alum Dr. Richard Drake. Also, I say we can lay claim to some of the coolest footwear designs/inventions in the WORLD thanks to local legend, Nike!
  • I adore great ideas from readers! Someone recently suggested sharing a local restaurant or shop in each Daily, and I think that sounds fabulous. I visited Ramen Ryoma @Uwajimaya this week after years of passing by the nondescript entrance despite multiple recommendations from friends, and boy was I missing out! It might just be my new favorite ramen spot (also, helpful hint — it's budget-friendly!) If you have ideas on other restaurants/shops to feature, I would LOVE to hear them.
