Good morning, neighbors! Ash DeMello here with the latest issue of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Clouds giving way to some sun. High: 47 Low: 31.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. BASE is considered by many to be one of the best schools in the state. Tina Sillers reports on how the Beaverton school focuses on STEAM programs to direct kids to careers in computer science, engineering and biomedical studies. If popularity is an indicator, the efforts seem worth it: BASE recently had 900 students apply to fill just 165 openings. (KATU)
  2. The Washington County court experienced a uniquely difficult week last week. Troy Shinn reports that the institution held three trials for high-profile murder allegations. On trial were Norbeto Muniz, 42, for the 2018 murder of Amy Low; Lisa Akers, 41, on trial for murder, assault and attempted murder in unincorporated Washington County in 2020; and Julian Gallardo, 20, accused of attempted murder at a house party in Hillsboro in 2020. (Pamplin Media Group)
  3. At The Garages Satellite Pub may have moved out of Beaverton, but the venue is still hosting some pretty cool gigs. Tonight's concert is inspired by Philip Hodapp, a musician who has been living with Parkinson's Disease for 25 years. Read about the concert set to benefit the Beaverton non-profit, Parkinson Resources of Oregon, at Pamplin Media Group.
  4. There's a new place to practice your golf game. New Infinity Golf in Tigard offers a spot for virtual practice, served up alongside a full menu and bar. Owner Ken Reigle says it's "perfect for the golfer to stop in after work to hit balls or on their lunch hour." (Pamplin Media Group)
  5. Washington County Land Use and Transportation folks report they had a productive 2020-2021 despite challenges caused by the pandemic. Among the agency's accomplishments were the completion of the Tualatin Valley Trail Concept Plan and the management of 90 road projects in design or construction. What's next for LUT? Click over to the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) Online Open House through February 11 to share projects that are important to you. (LUT News)
