🌱Pedestrian Death Prompts Protest On Hall + Aloha Snowboarder Missing

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hello neighbors! Welcome back. I'm Merlin Douglass, your regular guest curator. Let's get your day started, shall we?

First, today's weather:

Look at all that sun, will you? Wowza! High: 75 Low: 42

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Protesters gathered on Hall Boulevard Tuesday to draw attention to the dangerous section of roadway that resulted in Karen Kane losing her life last month when she was hit by a car. She was struck as she was walking her mother back to her memory care center across the street. The driver did not remain at the scene. Protesters complained about the lack of crossing areas as well as the lack of sidewalks, even though the area is residential. (KOIN)
  2. The Beaverton School District is pursuing a $723 million bond measure in the May election. The school district says the bond measure is needed for a variety of upgrades for the 53 schools in the district. The areas most in need include modernization, deferred maintenance, security, capacity, technology and seismic upgrades. (KGW)
  3. Washington County has passed an equity charter which will establish a committee to improve community engagement and support marginalized communities. The plan is to establish a 15-member panel largely composed of community members along with two members of the Washington County board who will advise them. Members will receive equity training and are expected to serve for two years. The committee will make recommendations to the commissioners regarding how money is spent and how policies are crafted. The county hopes that this committee will make sure that the priorities of equity, diversity and inclusion are the guiding principles in county decisions. 4. Ryan Mather of Aloha didn't return from a snowboarding trip Tuesday. Deputies found Mather's car in the Meadows parking lot prompting an immediate search for the missing man. Members of the Mount Hood Search and Rescue searched through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with no success. (KGW.com)
  5. As Spring progresses, many people think about taking the kids to a farm to see the animals or picking their own fruits and vegetables. The Washington County Chamber of Commerce has a list of farms that are open to visits from the public. Whether you're in the mood for cows or carrots, from u-pick to you-go, there's a farm near you that has what you're looking for. (Washington County Visitors information)
