Morning, people of Beaverton! Ash DeMello here with your Saturday copy of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Rain becoming steadier. High: 50 Low: 38.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Learn more about the plight of grocery workers at OPB News. The publication reports that members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555, representing many employees at Fred Meyer and QFC stores, began a weeklong strike at 6:00 AM on Friday, December 17. Click over to the article to see pictures of the crowd that gathered yesterday at the Beaverton Town Square Fred Meyer.
  2. A notice went out to Beaverton School District families on Thursday, December 16, regarding threats to schools via Tik Tok. KATU staff say they've heard of similar threats to schools all over the state and even the nation, most of which were deemed "non-credible." BSD officials took the opportunity to warn parents about monitoring kids' social media activity.
  3. Are you familiar with the area's "Snow Zones"? Washington County LUT News shares three regional spots where traction devices are required in inclement weather. Click over to the newsletter to see the map and get more information about county requirements when roads are slick.
  4. Washington County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the community's help in locating a woman who's been missing since December 6. Jade Paque-Phillips' last-known-whereabouts were near Highway 217 and Barnes Road, near the Highway 26 interchange and Sunset Transit Center Park & Ride. Click the link to see a picture and find out where to share possible sightings. (KATU)
  5. See the latest numbers pertaining to hospital capacity in Washington County at the Beaverton Patch. No local hospitals report COVID-19 cases occupying ICU beds. Providence Saint Vincent and Tuality (OHSU Hillsboro) are nearing capacity for inpatient beds as well as ICU beds (over 80 percent).
