Police Initiate Lockout At Beaverton Middle School Tuesday

BEAVERTON, OR — Meadow Park Middle School was placed on lockout Tuesday morning while Beaverton police reportedly searched the area around the school for an armed suspect involved in a domestic violence case.

The lockout was initiated just after 7:30 a.m., roughly two hours before classes begin at the school, which is located at 14100 S.W. Downing St. in Beaverton.

Beaverton School District spokeswoman Maureen Wheeler told Patch the lockout was a precautionary measure and that no students were in danger. In fact, because of the timing of the lockout, few students were even at the school; classes at Meadow Park begin after 9 a.m., Wheeler said.

The lockout was lifted around 8:45 a.m., according to the district's website.

Washington County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Rookhuyzen told Patch that deputies were searching for a man who was accused of menacing his girlfriend earlier. The man reportedly sprayed his girlfriend with a fire extinguisher and threatened her with a large knife, roughly six to eight inches in length, before the woman was able to escape and contact police.

The suspect was able to flee police and remains at-large, though Rookhuyzen clarified there is no threat to the general public.

The woman who was threatened is safe in police custody, Rookhuyzen said.
