Morning, Beaverton! Ash DeMello here, back from a refreshing week off. Read on for some of the key items you need to know about what's going on today in the Beaverton area.


First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and chilly. High: 50 Low: 31.


Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. It's official: Masks will be optional in Beaverton School District schools starting March 14. The district announced the decision via e-mail and on its website on March 7 following a survey of students, staff and parents. The decision follows the Saturday, March 12 end to the state mask mandate.
  2. Beaverton boys are out of the 6A state tournament following a win by the Tualatin Timberwolves during the Wednesday quarterfinals. The Beavers lost 54-43 and are set to play in the consolation semifinals on Thursday. (OregonLive)
  3. Local business owner and philanthropist Pat Reser received recognition as a lifetime trustee by Oregon State University, the school announced on March 9. Reser graduated from the OSU College of Education in 1960 and received an honorary doctorate from the university in 2019. She is recognized for her volunteer leadership. (Oregon State University)
