Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:
- Downed power poles closed a downtown Beaverton street on Saturday morning. Southwest Broadway Street was closed between Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard and Southwest Watson Avenue until PGE was able to make repairs. The cause is unknown and under investigation. Read the details at KPTV.com and see pictures from the Beaverton Police via Instagram.
- Learn more about Experience Theatre Project's upcoming production over at KOIN.com. The fresh look at "The Great Gatsby," called "Great Gatsby's Daisy," explores the idea that Jay Gatsby is actually an African-American person who's "passing" as a white man. The show premieres January 28.
- Washington County became the first jurisdiction in the state to join the House America initiative earlier this month. Click over to the article to read about the county's efforts to combat homelessness. (KOIN.com)
- Ridwell, the disputed collector of hard-to-recycle recyclables, isn't leaving the area without a fight. Multiple jurisdictions ordered the company to stop work in the area, including Beaverton and Washington County. Now, Ridwell is suing the county, alleging the decision to ban the company was made improperly. Get all the details at Willamette Week.
- After a third party reviewed use-of-force by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the agency says its looking to make improvements.
