🌱 Rock Creek Thieves Jailed + WashCo Chief Doc Talks Masking
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Good morning, people of Beaverton. I'm writing today's Daily with a heavy heart as my thoughts are on those affected by the disaster in Kentucky. Here's what's going on locally for Tuesday, December 14.
First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy and chilly. High: 43 Low: 36.
Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- Washington County Public Health's chief epidemiologist talks to Geoff Norcross at OPB.org regarding COVID-19 numbers. In the interview, Dr. Kim Repp explains why Oregon's mask mandate isn't translating into lower infection rates, even compared to states without mask mandates.
- Washington County Sheriff's deputies snagged two would-be crooks attempting to steal catalytic converters in the Rock Creek area last week. A call went in to the agency early Thursday morning when a witness says they saw two men with flashlights crawling under a vehicle. Deputies arrived and took the two individuals into custody on charges of first-degree attempted theft, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and possession of burglary tools. (Fox12)
- Find out the latest from City Hall via last week's Your Beaverton update. The City Council meeting on December 9 included the year in review from the Bicycle Advisory Committee as well as the Diversity Advisory Board. The group also discussed the efforts to make TV Highway more pedestrian friendly, which includes obtaining $1 million from an FTA grant called Helping Obtain Prosperity for Everyone (HOPE).
- Two hundred young people got to visit the Hops' Clubhouse on Sunday as part of a vaccination effort. A local OHSU doctor points out the importance of getting kids vaccinated since over 8,000 people between 5 and 11 have faced hospitalization because of COVID-19. Vaccination also helps prevent the spread of the disease to more vulnerable community members. Check out highlights from Sunday's event over at KGW.com.
- Need more fuzziness in your life? Check out the latest pets available for adoption in the Beaverton area. Among the potential adoptees are 10-week old kittens and a sweet-looking baby chihuahua named Jett. (Beaverton Patch)

From my notebook:
- How low will the snow go? Local weather services are taking bets (figuratively, I think) on how much snow we'll see on the Valley floor this week. Whatever the amount, @OregonDOT points out that it's a good time to review snow tire and chain laws! (Twitter)
- Some folks are already seeing the flaky white stuff. Check out this post from @KATUNews about sightings in the Forest Grove area! (Twitter)
- Today is National Bouillabaisse Day! If you're feeling fishy (shrimpy and mussel-y), why not head to The Stock Pot on Scholls Ferry Road (rated the 7th top restaurant in the whole town on Trip Advisor)?
