Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- Even though pandemic restrictions are loosening, a social worker who works in the Beaverton School District says many students are still suffering. A recent CDC survey reported that around 45% of high school students said they'd experienced persistent sadness or hopelessness. Abuse statistics also remain high. - The trial begins today for a Washington County-based romance novelist accused of shooting her husband in 2018. Students discovered the body of Daniel Brophy, a chef at the Oregon Culinary Institute, the morning of June 2, 2018. Nancy Crampton-Brophy, his wife, wrote a disturbing essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband" back in 2011, and police say they have camera footage of her near Daniel Brophy's workplace the day of his death. - Check in with the Cedar Mill News to read about development news North of 26. Top line items include a delay in opening for Insomnia and Wildwood Taphouse at the new Milltowner Center at Cornell and Saltzman. The new Target (also on Cornell near Saltzman) will possibly open later this month, but there hasn't been any confirmation. Finally, a large affordable senior-focused housing project was approved by a county Hearings Officer on March 28. The 53-unit complex is planned for the corner of Dogwood and Saltzman.
- The City of Beaverton wants your thoughts on the Cooper Mountain Development. An online open house runs through today. City Council will discuss the results of the open house survey at its April 19 work session.
- Take a look at five new houses on the market in the Beaverton area on Beaverton Patch. The rundown features a large family home in the Sexton Mountain area listed at $829,500 and a two-bedroom townhome near Progress Ridge for $440,000.
