Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Beaverton's Mariel Zagunis says she has "confidence going forward" after losing the women's saber quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympics. Zagunis is the most decorated U.S. fencer, and she has participated in five Olympics, achieving three medals. There's still a chance for her to pick up a fourth medal in the upcoming team event.   2. After a special session July 20, Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) swore in Tony Erickson for his second term representing Zone 4 alongside four other members. Erickson's zone includes Beaverton and Sunset High School attendance areas, Clatskanie, Rainier, Scappoose, St. Helens and Vernonia. In this role, he will continue to work as a volunteer with the NWRESD to ensure the 20 component school districts receive quality services. (Tillamook Headlight-Herald)
  3. The Lake Oswego school board okayed a plan requiring masks for elementary students in the upcoming school year at their July 22 meeting. Secondary students over 12 years of age will not be required to wear masks, though those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised will be strongly encouraged to do so.   4. Olympic Runner Emily Infeld was stalked for three years, according to ESPN reports. The suspect allegedly moved to Portland to be closer to the runner, forcing her to relocate and interfering with her hopes of participating in the Tokyo games. Infeld trains with Nike's famed Bowerman Track Club. (Willamette Week)
